London: The New Sydenham Society, 1892-1893. 1st Edition . Very Good. 5.75 x 8.75 inches (14.5 x 22.5 cm). First UK edition. Complete three volume set. Original brown blind stamped cloth bindings with gilt figures to front boards. Some bumping to ends of spines, small mark to rear board of Volume III. Volume I has cracking to endpaper joints and crease to front free endpaper. A few spots of foxing but overall a very clean set. Front pastedown endpaper of Volume II has the bookplate of John William Ballantyne. Ballantyne was a pioneer advocate of antenatal care and advancement of professional training of women in the field of medicine. In 1890 he became lecturer of midwifery and gynaecology at Edinburgh School of Medicine for women, a role he held for over 25 years. An excellent association copy. Overall condition is Very Good.
