About This Item
New York, NY: Macmillan, 1940. First Edition, First Thus . Hardcover. COLLECTIBLE - NEAR FINE/No Jacket. Text/BRAND NEW. Red linen boards w/silver lettering/NF. DJ/None. Illustrated end papers; dyed upper text edge. Frontispiece portrait by Benjamin West. LAID-IN: BOMC REVIEW. Biography of novelist and adventurer Edward Trelawny (1792 - 1881). If "Byronic" is understood as evoking the romantic, handsomely dark, mysterious and moody characteristics, then Trelawny may be said to be the incarnation of "Byronism". Like Lord Byron, Trelawny joined the fight for Greek Independence, and likewise, was drawn to close friendship with Shelley. He is remembered for his account of the last days of Shelley and Byron, and the scene of the burning of Shelley's body on the Italian beach.
