Description:
Adelaide: State Library of South Australia (SLSA) / Wakefield Press, 1986. Hardback octavo, dustjacket, very good condition (in very good dustjacket), glossy red synthetic cloth cover, autograph (director's written dedication). 266 pp. The first full-length history of an Australian state library written from its archives by a historian who links events to the fledgeling society of South Australia. The State Library of South Australia started in 1836, but not before a sea-chest full of books had to be dredged from the bottom of the Port River before a book could be read. (Written dedication is to Richard Shears of the Daily Mail on his visit to the State Library in 1997, signed by the Director of the Library.).
