About This Item
Try and Stop Me is a best-selling book written by American writer Bennett Cerf (1898-1971), the founder of Random House. It sold one million copies in its first two years—no mean feat in wartime.
It is a compilation of anecdotes, urban legends, jokes, ghost stories, what Cerf called "shaggy dog stories", and profiles of celebrities. It includes excellent illustrations by the artist Carl Rose.
This copy is in very good shape. 380 pages, plain beige boards with gold and red on the spine.
Published by Simon & Schuster, 1945, in accordance with the Wartime Production Rules.
No dust jacket. There is the odd spot on the cover and the spine has darkened somewhat. Inside, the original owner wrote her name on the front end-paper, but the signature is small and unobtrusive. Inside, the book is fine and in great shape.
