About This Item

Ottawa: Department of Northern Affairs and National Resources 1961. (stiff paper covers) 97pp. Very good plus. Color illustrated map endpapers, illustrations, photographs, notes. "In the second half of the nineteenth century, the foremost carvers of the Haida, the Tsimsyan, and the Tlingit chose to illustrate their native mythology and folk tales. The Haida specialized in argillite, as it shown in Haida Myths, published in this series of monographs on North Pacific Coast art and mythology. And the Tsimsyan have been the main contributors of traditional narratives in so far as they were recorded from 1880 to the present" - from the Preface. Published for National Museum of Canada.
