Dowson's first collection of poetry, containing his most famous lines: "They are not long, the days of wine and roses" from "Vitae Summa Brevis," and "I have been faithful to thee, Cynara! In my fashion" from "Non Sum Qualis eram Bonae Sub Regno Cynarae," this latter poem the title source for both Margaret Mitchell's Gone with the Wind and Cole Porter's "Always True to you in my Fashion". Full red morocco, top edge gilt,others uncut, bound by Studio Ars Libri, Amsterdam. The original imitation parchment covers and spine, with gilt design on the front cover by Aubrey Beardsley, are bound in. Fine condition. Bookplate of Barry Humphries.

Partly inspired by the early lyrics of Elizabeth Barrett (later Browning), to whom he dedicated this volume of poems, Poe composed "The Raven" in trochaic octometer, with a deranged musicality all his own. The elements are familiar even to those who don't read poetry: the "midnight dreary," the silk-curtained chamber, the raven perched upon the bust of Athena, the relentless refrain that drives the narrator mad. Some browning to the pages somewhat affecting the text and images but this phenomena correspond to other copies. A rare work that includes the subscriber list for this Royal Folio First Edition. Tastefully restored, retaining original leather, except at spine. A complete edition.
