First Edition/First Printing. 1 pages. The filmmaker's second film classic. One of the most important films of the 20th century. Manufactured in NTSC in a small and limited press run. Original DVD plastic case with front and back pictorial covers and titles on the cover, back, and spine, as issued. Both the case and the disc are in pristine condition. Manufactured in the United States to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Kidlat Tahimik's "Turumba". His sequel-of-sorts to "Perfumed Nightmare". His real name is Eric C. DeGuia; his Filipino pseudonym literally means "Lightning Silence". "The ironies of capitalism on the margins make easy targets for Kidlat Tahimik's wit. But his sharp eye never makes him seem bitter. Demonstrates great affection for his subjects, without stooping to romanticism" (The Village Voice). Made before the advent of the Digital Revolution, the message of all his films is even more urgent and relevant today. Formally rigorous and ingenious, they anticipate the work of the great Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien. Kidlat Tahimik's aesthetic is probably best described as affectionate ambivalence. He is not a Luddite who rejects high-tech. After all, his chosen art is film, itself a technological invention that depends on constant innovation and breakthroughs, and his cult following is the cosmopolitan, international film audience (his films have never been released commercially in the Philippines). He is instead a visual poet, whose goal is self-expression ("roots") and self-transcendence ("progress"). An absolute "must-have" title for Kidlat Tahimik collectors. This title is a great film. As far as we know, this is the only copy available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. A rare copy thus. Winner of the International Film Critics Award of the Berlin Film Festival and the American Film Festival Blue Ribbon in 1978 for "Perfumed Nightmare". One of the most brilliant filmmakers of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER KIDLAT TAHIMIK TITLE IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0933621884.
