About This Item

At the Rose, London: Jonah Bowyer, 1717. Book. Very Good. Hardback. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. A very good copy, bound in contemporary inlaid calf in a two-tone brown, that has only minor wear. This makes for a most attractive volume. This is Volume VI in the collection of sermons from South. Robert South (1634-1716) was a churchman who was known for his combative preaching and his Latin poetry. He was the son of Robert South, a London merchant, and Elizabeth Berry. He was born at Hackney, Middlesex, and was educated at Westminster School under Richard Busby, and at Christ Church, Oxford, matriculating on 11 December 1651. Portrait frontispiece. 564pp., paper crisp and fresh. Overall a nice copy..
