Set in WWI-era America, this novel recounts "the adventures that befell Sergeant Gray of Headquarters Troops, told with inimitable humor.& a delicate understanding of the Mother whose boy is 'somewhere in France.'' A First Edition, First Printing from George H. Doran,1918, this slim hardcover (86 pages) has decorative endpapers & 2 internal color illustrations on glossy paper by May Wilson Preston, one of which (frontispiece) is completely detached, but intact. Wartime paper-covered beige boards with blue decorative title box to front/lettering to spine. Condition is only Good, downgraded due to foxing to outside page edges, dampstaining to outer edges of endpapers & next few pages in both front & rear; internal text is unaffected. Binding is secure. Former owner's name in pen inside front cover; NO other writing or underlining or highlighting; not ex-lib. The hard-to-find DJ (with matching design) is only Fair, with heavy edgewear. & soil, chips at spine & corners. Nicely protected in new mylar cover free!
