(Subject: Political & Biographies - General) Having volunteered in 1914, the author served as a rifleman in the Queen's Westminster Rifles in the trenches on the Western Front. After the Christmas truce of 1914 he was wounded and invalided home. Commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Lincolnshire Territorial Regiment, then to the Machine-Gun Corps, he served at Ypres and Passchaendale, subsequently being promoted to Captain. Walkinton once again saw service in WWII as Second-in-Command of the Royal Sussex Regiment in France as part of the BEF. Unread but some shelf wear on cover.
