About This Item

New York: W.W. Norton & Company, 1978. THis is no ordinary book about a cruise in a sailing yacht. It is true adventure. Hal and Margaret Roth, veteran sailors, set out to sail their famous boat "Whisper" through and around the litle known archipelago on the Southwest coast of South America and thence around the greatest challenge of all, Cape Horn. Twenty-four miles from the Horn they were wrecked on a desolate rocky shore and were rescued after nine days by the Chilean Navy. They returned and salvaged the Whisper and set out again. They successfully rounded the Horn and headed north to the United States. By the time they reached the East Coast they had logged 20,000 miles. This is a tale for the armchair voyager, the nautical buff and the lover of adventure. Illustrated with b/w and colour photographs by the author, maps by Sam F. Manning. A lovely copy in a price-clipped, photographic wrap-around dust jacket.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Near Fine.
