Edinburgh: Ballantyne and Hughes, 1848 A good copy of the 1st edition in newer full cloth binding. The binding has gilt titles and date to spine and is in very good clean condition with light corner bumping. Newer endpapers with bookplate of John Davie Manson Robertson to front pastedown. New blank added at the front and numerous blank pages at the rear (for notes??). Contents: frontispiece of 2 seals; old blank; title and text 24pp with double page folding facsimile document. Contents very clean with light spotting to initial blank and frontispiece. Some scuffing in gutter to verso of frontispiece.

Uniformly bound in brown calf, spine decorated in blind and gilt with arabesque lozenge on each cover, from the library of William Gordon of Fybie with bookplate. Spines and joints quite rubbed, upper joints starting, some offsetting or spotting, mostly at front and back, else a very attractive work in a brown cloth box. First editions.
