First Editions. 24mo; 197pp, 272pp. Two volumes bound together in brown cloth-covered boards with brown leather spine and corner tips and gilt lettering/tooling to spine. Red staining to page edges. Boards bumped at corners with some fading and smudging to cloth and a few scuffs to leather. Old bookseller notes in pencil on flyleaf, else pages unmarked. Binding is sound. This copy from the personal library of journalist William Safire.
