London: Cape, 1926. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. Signed by Author. First UK Edition. Original maroon cloth, spine panel stamped in gold, bottom edge untrimmed. First UK edition. The authors' second book and first published novel. Indiscriminate marks to the boards in places and softening to the spine tips otherwise a VG copy in like D/W heavily darkened to the spine, creased with minor wear at the spine tips, rubbed to the extremities and rather soiled. Signed by H E Bates on the FFEP and believed to be his own copy. Enclosed within is a letter (dated 26 May 1930) from The Panton Bookmart a bookseller in Haymarket, London indicating that this is H E Bates own copy with the correction on the inside flap of the D/W by him
