First American edition, unauthorized, good blue cloth (no jacket) stamped in gilt and silver to cover and spine with gilt decoaration of a man and woman (two of them). Hardover shows touch of spine lean and touch of soil, rubbing at edges that is worn through to boards at small areas of corners and ends, rubbed out name at front end paper causing an off color blemish, previous owner bookplates at front paste down, rear end paper has top corner clipped, some short closed tears and shallow open chips at page fore edges due to careless cutting of uncut pages, page along with a few light internal splits and off set leaves. 282 pages with black & white illustrations and followed by a few pages of adverts. All said this does remain an attractive copy of this work of fiction by the creator of Peter Pan and other notable work.

Illustrated with 10 plates. 282 pp., [4] pp. publisher's adv. Octavo, blue cloth over bevelled boards, gilt-title at spine. One leaf has a marginal tear (p. 87). The spine is very lightly sunned; and the cloth shows just a touch of wear at fore-corners. Nonetheless, it is a remarkably clean and crisp copy overall, and near fine. Cutler calls this one of the most curious of all unauthorized American editions of Barrie because it is primarily a reprint of material recently published in An Auld Licht Manse and A Tillyloss Scandal, which is probably the reason it was not widely printed, and is evidence of the publisher's blatant attempt to capitalize on Barrie's popularity for profit. Cutler cites the paperbound issue of this book, published on April 25, 1893, and also notes that it also appeared in 1893 "in blue cloth, with a reduced representation of the frontispiece on the front cover. Wear through the front cover's cloth with fraying to cloth at the top & bottom of the spine, bottom corners lightly bumped, back cover cloth a bit wavy and worn, webbing visible at gutter behind front cover, half title and endpage foxed, other pages clean.
