A letter written in response to congratulations offered on his wedding engagement, by a versatile scholar best known for his association with John Muir. Reading in part: "I am starting westward on the fourteenth, stopping to lecture in Chicago, thence on to Denver, Salt Lake City, San Francisco and San Diego. We will be married on the twelfth of January, and then start on a trip to Florida, Cuba and Jamaica."
Minnesota native, William Frederic Badè (1871-1936) was an ordained Moravian minister, a professor of ancient languages, a theologian and bible scholar, a mountaineer, a conservationist and naturalist, and an archaeologist, but is best remembered as the literary executor and biographer of Scottish-American naturalist and author, John Muir.
Dr. Philip Smead Bird (1886-1948) was a clergyman, civic leader, and pastor of the Church of the Covenant in Cleveland Ohio.
