TLS "Eleanor Roosevelt" in blue fountain pen. 6" x 7" on her home address letterhead, Apartment 15-A / 29 Washington Square, West / New York, 11 N .Y. but mailed from Poughkeepsie, where she kept her country home. Includes free frank envelope addressed to Mrs. Walter E. Taylor / Monson, Maine. In her ever charming way, one of the most popular First Ladies ever always kept polite communication with her constituents. "My dear Mrs. Taylor: I appreciate very much your sending me the poem which your sister wrote in memory of my husband. It was thoughtful of you. Description:
Washington DC, 8 December 1939. Letter. Stains in the upper right blank margin with two small stains on the text; small portions of upper left margin torn away; Roosevelt's signature is Fine. Overall Very Good. On White House letterhead SIGNED by the First Lady to Florida Senator Claude Pepper. In full: "Could you get this boy an appointment if you find he is worthy? Also, could you answer the mother's question about a place to live, as you know Florida better than I do?" A short but interesting letter showing the First Lady's concern and kindness for people. Claude Pepper served in the United States Senate from 1936 to 1951 and later served the Miami area in the United States House of Representatives from 1963 until 1989, the year of his death.

Together with the original typed mailing envelope, with her "free franked" stamp and postmarked New York, N.Y., August 3, 1960 with a Camp Fire Girl Golden Jubilee 1910-1960 cancellation. To Mr. Richard W. Gimbel Culver Military Academy; Culver, Indiana. Interesting letter of thanks, but not agreeing with his distaste of a film shown at the Democratic convention. In part: ". . .To me it was an interesting way of explaining a platform. . .". No Binding. Fine/No Jacket.

"Eleanor Roosevelt." 1 page, 9 ½" x 6", The White House letterhead to Mrs. William Randolph Hearst at 137 Riverside Drive, New York, N.Y. Roosevelt asks Mrs. Hearst to help seek a position for her friend Genevieve Forbes Herrick (1894-1962) who had resigned from her position at the Chicago Tribune in May, 1934. Very good. Together with The White House envelope postmarked June 13, 1934.

Herrick was a reporter favored by Mrs. Roosevelt, becoming one of "the favored four" and was often invited by Mrs. Roosevelt to lunch at The White House.
