About This Item

Toledo, Ohio, 1914. Wraps. Fine. Privately printed memorial piece dedicated by the author to her uncle, Daniel C. Shaw (1839 - 1904), a Toledo businessman who served with the 13th Illinois, which was the first volunteer regiment raised for three years' service.

Shaw was detailed as wagon master and served under General Curtis. His regiment participated in battles and skirmishes at Springfield, Mo.; Arkansas at Arkansas Post, Champion Hills, Black River Bridge, the Siege of Vicksburg, Missionary Ridge, and Madison Station. He was an eyewitness to the famous charge on Missionary Ridge, which drove the Confederates back to Ringold Gap, Georgia.

4to, frontispiece photographic portrait, [17] pp, not paginated. Gray gilt suede covers, titled "Uncle Dan" at front wrapper, cord bound, gilt end papers. OCLC: 993877996 records only one copy, at Bowling Green State University.
