About This Item

London: Herbert Jenkins Limited, 1939. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Dust Jacket Included. London, Herbert Jenkins Limited, August 1939 (first UK edition, preceded by the US edition by only one week: they were published on 25 August and 18 August respectively). Octavo, 311, [1] (blank), [8] (publisher's advertisements for other Wodehouse publications) pages. Aqua-coloured cloth lettered in brown on the spine, with the publisher's logo in brown at the rear; covers lightly rubbed and bumped at the extremities; head of the front joint a little abraded; edges very lightly marked; endpapers offset; an excellent copy with the unclipped (but unpriced) colour-pictorial dustwrapper a little torn and chipped, with minimal loss to the corner tips and the ends of the spine, and with minor surface loss to the front panel (five small and unobtrusive patches). 'Herbert Jenkins' Colonial Library' is printed in white on the lime-green oval-shaped panel near the foot of the spine, in place of the original published price of '7/6 net'. McIlvaine A61b3 (the second reissue of the first printing, differing only in the colour of the binding and the number of pages of advertisements).
