About This Item

New York: Appleton-Century Crofts, 1969. First Thus. 153 pp., 5.25 x 8 inches. Sewn signatures in printed card covers. Faint foxing to edges, and very mild bump to base of spine, otherwise very good.

A student edition of the French text of Perec's first book, winner of the1965 Prix Renaudot, with an introduction, annotations, questions and composition topics, and vocabulary by the editor. Perec was a member of the international literary confraternity known as Oulipo ("Ouvroir ce Litterature Potentielle" or Workshop of Potential Literature), which began as a subcommitte of the College of Pataphysics. An uncommon form of this book, and a particularly "Oulipian" version of Perec's first novel.

About Passages Bookshop

Passages Bookshop stocks fine, rare, and unusual books and graphic art, with a concentration on modern and contemporary literature and art (particularly poetry and the avant-garde), artist's books, fine printing, and the book arts. The successor to New York City's Bridge Bookshop (late 1980s), Passages opened in Albuquerque in 1994 and relocated to Portland, Oregon, in 1997. In November of 2015 we moved to a new retail shop and gallery centrally located in Portland's east side, two blocks north of the convention center, where we are typically open Thursday through Saturday from 12:00 to 6:00 pm, as well as by appointment or chance.
