About This Item
London: Gollancz, 1928. Hard Cover. First UK Edition Thus. Publisher's black boards with red lettering to the spine. About VG with edges of text block browned penetrating into the book in a few places. Base of spine lightly frayed else quite firm and presentable. Nicer than it sounds. Recently reissued by Tartarus Press. Uncommon. "That rare thing - a truly gruesome and uncanny tale" - Gerald Gould (The Observer). So macabre are Robbins' plot and characters (three carnival misfits seek revenge on mankind by forming a murder and theft ring) that they inspired Todd Browning and Lon Chaney to film this book as a movie, not once, but twice in 1925 and 1930. Photographs/scans available upon request.
