This is an unread stated first edition of National Geographic's 1987 book, Into the Unknown: The Story of Exploration.
It chronicles the history of exploration on earth--and beyond--from the recorded travels of explorers from the Phoenicians and Greeks, through the exploration of the North American continent and expeditions to the poles, to the moon landings.
It was written by 18 people, including Buzz Aldrin, Neil Armstrong, Roald Amundsen, Leif Erikssen, Meriwether Lewis, William Clark, Charles Darwin, Ferdinand Magellan and Marco Polo.
It contains 266 photos, paintings, illustrations and drawings, plus 23 maps.It is a big book: 336 pages, 9 1/2" x 11 1/2" x 1 1/8"
The book is brown boards with a brilliant gold design on the cover and spine.
The dust jacket is worn, but it has done its job.
The book has not been read and is in pristine condition.
Its only flaw was created by the printer--you can see it in the photo. On the front cover, bottom left, there is a binding error.Otherwise, it's perfect. Lovely book.
