About This Item
Fort Worth, TX: Miran Publishers, 1976. 1st Edition . Soft cover. Very Good. VERY GOOD First Edition in blue card covers. 6" x 9", 169 pages, illustrated with photos and maps. Covers have some marks, light foxing on edges and inside, occasional handwritten notes in the margins regarding births, deaths and funerals. This book is signed by the author Roy E. Neufeldt (1918-1983) underneath his frontispiece photo. "This book was written primarily to identify the descendants of my Great-Grandfather, Johann Neufeldt, who was born in Neukirch, a village in the Molotschna Colonies of South Russia, in 1824. He married Katharina Penner in 1848 and they came to America in 1876 and settled in Jackson County, Minnesota. This book also includes some information about the Flaming and Olfert families. These are the family names of the wives of Isaac and Peter Neufeldt. The Flamings, Olferts and the Neufeldts came from the same area in Russia and settled in the same area in Minnesota at about the same time." - "Some of you spell your name Neufeld instead of Neufeldt. I have used Neufeldt in all cases to avoid confusion with the Neufeld who married into the family." The information in this book is based on more than 3 years of research. The author corresponded with members of this family and read hundreds of micro-film copies of census reports, passenger lists, old church records, old books, old newspapers and Government documents. He also received information from State and County records, newspaper articles written about Mennonites more than 100 years ago, and the Genealogical Library in Salt Lake City, Utah - and their regional branch in Tucson, Arizona - as well as the Mennonite Library and Archives Information and Research Center of North Newton, Kansas - and the Historical Department of the University of Moscow in Russia.
