Paris.. No date. Ca. late 1700s.. Engraving, image 13 1/4 x 11 1/4 inches, tipped onto paper support with decorative gouache border, 23 3/4 x 18 inches. This display treatment is evidently old, if not contemporary with the print (the support sheet was washed with green paint (gouache) and the decorative panel and lines applied by hand). The print has been trimmed to just outside the image; the printed image is in very good clean condition. A richly engraved composition depicting a woman holding a lyre. An excellent example of the fine work done by "reproductive" printmakers of the 18th century in popularising artworks (see Susan Lambert's book on this topic "The Image Multiplied"). .
