This volume comes out of the 40th Annual Austrian Association for American Studies Conference (November, 2013), in Salzburg, which had more than 60 scholars and students from Austria, Germany, France, the United States, the Netherlands, and Switzerland. The conference topic was “American Utopias.” Papers presented covered early American colonial endeavors of the Puritans, looked at utopian communities of the 19th century, and looked ahead to ecological and economic future worlds. This volume has a selection of these papers and aims to add to ongoing debates and to foster further discussion on U.S. expressions of utopian and dystopian visions. Distributed in the US by ISBS.
