Victor Gollancz, 1954 432 printed pages, photographic portrait frontispiece, map endpapers ('The Author's Routes'). 15 x 22.5 cm. Original red cloth, spine with gilt lettering (very slightly faded. Complete with photographic portrait dust jacket, in good condition. Old tape residue just showing through from inside of head & tail of spine. Very slight edgewear & a few very short closed tears. Presents well. This book of memoirs was translated from the Danish by Johan Hambro. Contents - each chapter headed by a quote, followed by list of subjects. For example: Chapter III - "No matter how I achieved it, the degree bolstered by morale." Copenhagen, Hippocrates, pigs' trotters - first steps toward the Arctic. Lorenz Peter Elfred Freuchen (1886-1957) was a Danish explorer, author, journalist and anthropologist, notable for his role in Arctic exploration, namely the Thule Expeditions.. 1st Edition.
