Self Published, 1984.. 3rd Edition.. Hardbound . BINDING/CONDITION: textured rust colored boards with gilt text; light handling soil to the text edges, date and a small device drawn on the blank page preceding the title; otherwise a Very Good book, with a Good+ dust jacket.. 8vo (about 8.5 inches tall) . Description: This copy is Signed by the author. Dust jacket art by Ernie Morris. Many rare photo illustrations, some are lamentably small (but then, that's the way it is with old family photographs), all are of interest. This is a sequel to These Were the Vaqueros. Originally published in 1979, this is the 1984 third edition, and has added material. This ''continues the story of the Hispanic horsemen of California and his Gringo pupil, the buckerooo, who learned his lesson so well that he has won the admiration of the world.'' Their culture was inherited from the Spanish cavalry man, and developed into a fine art in California. The book gives the lore of the men who loved their calling -- Gringos, Spaniards, Mexicans, Indians, and occasional Blacks, who upheld the vaquero tradition and clung to the centerfire saddle, spade bit and rawhide rope with an unwavering loyalty. This was written by a man who has studied the vaquero and his methods through a lifetime of eighty years, and studied horsemanship in Morocco, Spain and Portugal. Arnold Rojas' ancestors rode into California as cavalrymen with Juan Bautiste De Anza in 1776. The material at the rear includes several letters written to the author in regards his books; and an obituary of Lee Marvin Rice written by Kurt Markus. Printed by the Hall Letter Shop of Bakersfield, California.

He did this in a series that he didn't start publishing until he was into his mid-50s, his first, "The California Vaqueros" in 1953. Ultimately he would publish seven books over the years, the final one being, "Vaqueros and Buckaroos" in 1979. He wrote about what he knew and loved - the life and ways of the old California vaqueros - men he rode and worked with for over fifty years...... he wrote down the memories of all those years for as he said, "These are stories as seen through the eyes of old vaqueros, they are something of the splendor of those days, for there…
