About This Item

Elyria, OH: The Colson Company, [1949]. 4to. 14 (i.e. 18) pp., printed in red & black. Illustrated throughout, with numerous colour-tinted photo illustrations. Decorated softcovers, lettering in white & gold on covers (some scuffing, minor creasing, edgewear, very faint tidemark at gutter margin), still VG- copy, w/ bicycle distributors stamp on title for R.H. Brown Co., located in Seattle, Boise & Portland. First edition of this scarce post-World War II catalogue for this early manufacturer of tricycles, scooters, auto coasters, and bicycles for juveniles. Founded originally in 1885 as Fay Manufacturing, the company was eventually purchased by Fred Colson in 1917, and produced wheelchairs, hospital beds, wheeled carts, casters, and bicycles. The Colson company made special models for Firestone and Goodyear, and built the beloved Firestone Cruiser and Super Cruiser (Bullnose). This catalogue details the Colson Center Drive, trikes, velocipedes, and bicycles. No copies located in Worldcat; See; Colson Products, About Colson, History (2016); Howie Cohen, Everything Bicycles (2018).
