Original gilt-decorated white cloth, top edges gilt; original unprinted gold-colored cloth dust wrappers (spines darkened). First illustrated edition, trade issue, with a new two-page Preface by Howells. Of the 18 illustrations, reproduced in aquatint, seven are by Childe Hassam. A fine set. BAL 9664; Bennett, 'A Practical Guide to the American Nineteenth Century Color Plate Books', p. 60. (BA).
