About This Item

New York: Alfred Knopf, 1964. First edition. Hardcover. Good/good. In this fascinating biography, the author traces his grandfather's footsteps as a British colonial governor from Labuan, Borneo to Mauritius. John Pope-Hennessy seemed to be earmarked for the smaller outposts of empire which also included West Africa, the Caribbean and Hong Kong. One of the reasons why he never took on larger roles was because his appointments often ended in controversy as he was keen to give Britain's subjects a voice. Yet his competence ensured he was reappointed elsewhere. Good Hardback in a Good Dust Jacket. First Edition. 387 pages. Weight 0.9kg. Post free within Malaysia The dust jacket is heavily frayed around the edges and there is a stain at the back. There is a previous owner's smart book plate on the inside front cover. The end papers have medium tanning. Otherwise the binding is tight, the text is clear and there is very mild tanning throughout.
