London: John Lane, The Bodley Head, 1929. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 16mo. Orig. burgundy cloth gilt lettering and decor to spine. Top edge burgundy. x, Rubbing to extremities, two damp stains to front board, darkening to boards and spine, offset panel at rear. Very light damage from smoke just to top and tail edges of pages and rear pastedown (no odor of smoke present). Bumping to lower corner of pages near rear. Pencil notation to head of p. 1. Vernon Lee (pseudonym of Violet Paget) was a British writer celebrated mostly for her supernatural fiction, but she also wrote widely about art and travel. This collection features a selection of her earlier writings, including those on Italy, Germany, northern England, Renaissance art, and more.
