London and New York : Macmillan and Co., 1904 A good copy in the original decorative cloth binding with numerous delicate illustrations by Hugh Thomson. 4th reprint of the 2nd edition in this form (first published with Thomson illustrations in 1890). The binding has sage green cloth with heart leaf design in darker green and gilt titles to front board; gilt titles and further design to spine. All page edges gilt. The binding is clean with a bright front board. The spine is sunned with pulling at the top and bottom and is cocked. There is light corner wear. Internally the original endpapers are present - the front pastedown has a pencilled 5/- to the top. There is light spotting to endpapers. Contents complete and clean with occasional light spotting - mostly to early and final pages. 6pp catalogue at the rear.

Full navy morocco, ornate gilt-stamped border on boards, gilt-stamped lettering and ornament in spine compartments (5 raised bands), inside gilt dentelles, a.e.g.; 8vo; pp. xxxiv, [2], 305, with numerous illustrations in text. A few tiny scuff marks at spine tips, along joints and edges of boards; some light scratching on upper board. Prelims and terminals a little foxed, otherwise internally bright and clean. A nice, bright copy, in a lovely binding.
