Vintage Old Spice Bookmark, Flower Maid. 5 1/4" tall, printd both sides; red, white, blue and yellow obverse, blue and red reverse. See scans. The Flower Maid holds a "fuzzy" flower posy, which was scented back when this piece was originally manufactured. Very Good condition; without notable flaw except for the fact that the extraordinarily thin neck of the young maid suffered a tear at some point in the past, and that has been repaired with a small piece of scotch tape. At the time this promotional bookmark was issued by Shulton Incorporated of Clifton, NJ, Shulton was engaged in the manufacture of ladies toiletries, and the Old Spice line - new, right then, in 1937 - was itself a line of ladies' products. 'Old Spice' almost instantly - starting in 1938, in fact - became the name of a men's toiletries product. Its popularity has continued, to this day, under the manufacture of Procter & Gamble. But at that very first, incipient use of the name by Shulton, Old Spice was that ladies' toiletries line, and here is an example of the line's promotion. Very scarce collectible ephemera.
