Publisher's maroon cloth with faded gilt lettering and a portrait of Eugene Ysaye affixed within a blind-ruled border, octavo, pp. ix, 292. Tissue-guarded frontis of Ysaye and 15 other black and white portraits of violinists inserted as called for. Small old bookstore ticket at bottom of free front end paper. FAIR-only. A couple of the portraits are working their way loose from the binding, and the portrait of Leopold Auer has a short marginal tear at the fore-edge. This is a well-worn copy, with the hinges weakening. Spine ends and board tips frayed. Off-setting on the end papers and occasional foxing. Best thought of as what's known to the trade as a "Reading Copy." Noteworthy for its inclusion of female artist Maud Powell. Powell (1868-1920) is noteworthy in her own right as the first violinist to play Dvorack's violin concerto in the United States (with the New York Philharmonic).
