Francis "Fannie" H. Marr resided in Warrenton, VA; she was the sister of John Quincy Marr, the first Confederate soldier killed in combat with the Union, in 1861. As a writer in the aftermath of war, she achieved modest fame for her magazine articles and poetry, including My Suit of Confederate Gray and other such works. Virginia, and Other Poems is her second book of poetry, which (in addition to the eponymous paean to the state) contains a selection of sentimental and religious verses.
