About This Item

Thames & Hudson, 1972 4to (26 cm), 262 pp. Publisher's cloth, gilt-lettered spine and gilt front cover. In cloth slip-case. A facsimile edition of "Hours of Gian Galeazzo Visconti", an illuminated Book of Hours that was commissioned by the ruler of Milan, Gian Galeazzo Visconti in the late 14th century. Miniatures were painted by Giovannino dei Grassi and Luchino Belbello da Pavia. the manuscript is now in the Biblioteca Nazionale in Florence. In the Introduction in two parts a history of the manuscript, its structure and iconography are discussed. Included commentaries to each plate.
