New York: The American Tract Society, 1848. Hardcover. Very Good. 24mo. 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16, 16 pages. A small book measuring 5 5/8 inches tall by 3 3/4 inches wide. Hardcover bound in original taupe cloth with cover designs embossed in blind. The binding shows light wear overall, although there are some stains to the binding from handling. The corners are sharp, and the inner hinges are secure. A collection of 8 tracts (16 pages each) published together, each having an illustrated frontis and most having small text illustration as well. Early owner's name of "John P. Cushman." This might be John P. Cushman (1784-1848) the American lawyer and politician from New York. He was a Federalist and was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives representing New York's 10th District (1817-1819). He was also a Judge of the Third Circuit Court, 1838-1844. There is no copyright date in this book, which is composed of 8 16-page tracts. Worldcat suggests that this was printed before 1853. Another Worldcat listing for a similar title dated 1848 and being part of the American Tract Society's Series III, Nos. 17-32. This volume contains tracts from Series III, Nos. 25-32. A nice copy of a scarce book. We have several other books from the Cushman family.
