The author discusses the history and development of visiting cards and their cases with more than 300 illustrations of the various cases and the materials of which they were made (silver, mother-of-pearl, ivory, lacquer, papier mache, Tunbridge wear, etc) and the decoration with which they were embellished, reflecting the social history of the Regency and Victorian periods (from the jacket). Georgette Heyer would have made great use of this book.
