[California, PA: Arthur & Kit Knight, 1981. Oblong 12mo. Printed wrappers. Photo frontis. Very good or better. First edition. Copy #2 from an edition of 750 numbered copies, signed by the author, published as a special number of THE UNSPEAKABLE VISIONS OF THE INDIVIDUAL. This copy is inscribed by the author to his wife, Shirley: "For Shirley -- This chapter of the rich life of our house, our home - with my love - John." Holmes dated the inscription, evidently in error, "July 1980." Accompanied by a closely typed one page t.l.s. from the publishers, Arthur and Kit Knight, California, PA., 2 July 1981, to "Dear John & Shirley," thanking them for allowing them to visit, and giving an account of their stops along the way home, including a detailed account of drinking at Nicky's in Lowell, where amidst descriptions of local color, they recount meeting someone who remembered Kerouac "'Yah, he was always in here drunk,'" and other notes: "... Stella was in too we were told. We decided we didn't have anything to gain from meeting her -- maybe a lot to lose -- so we moved on."

Light dust soiling in wrappers, light wrinkling in second leaf from mounting glue, else fine. Numbered 141 of 750 copies and signed by the author. Four previously unpublished journal entries reflecting on the death of and three visits by Jack Kerouac to the Old Saybrook, Connecticut, home of the author, John Clellon Holmes (1926-1988), his close friend, known widely as the "quiet Beat" and author of the first Beat novel (GO [1952]). The first visit, "in 1957 occurred seven months before the publication of On the Road. The second entry, 1962, suggests the inroads that 'Beat' notoreity had made on Jack's personal life and character. The third, 1965 portrays something of the autumnal Jack (lonely and played-out) of the last years. The fourth, in 1969, records some of my emotion on hearing of his sudden death" (pp. [6-7]).…

REYNOLDS, Frank, aka "Freewheelin' Frank".666: "The Hymn" to "Lucifer". San Francisco: Hells Angels M.C., 1968 Description
12 colour-printed (262 x 202 mm) single sheets, loose as issued in the original colour-printed glossy card .
Text in an approximation of the Hell's Angels Fat Frank #1 "font", psychedelic and astrological decorations, author portrait by Bay Area photographer Larry Keenan Jr. in reddish-orange on the rear panel of the chemise.
A few cover spots....see photo, but overall very good.
Notes
First edition, uncommon. Fascinating document of the San Francisco underground scene. A sequence of amphetamine-fuelled metaphysical explorations combining the Satanic, astrological, and psychedelic in equal measure, with just a dash of biker lore. Reynolds was secretary of the notorious SF chapter of the Hell's Angels, and the previous year had seen the publication of his autobiography "as told to" poet Michael McLure, with whom he had been performing musical settings of McClure's poems - Frank on… Read More

Description:
Here is the rare, first edition hardcover of "Earth House Hold," signed by Gary Snyder. Only 2500 copies published in 1969 by New Directions (Item A 22 in the Gary Snyder Bibliography by Katherine McNeil). No dust jacket.Signed on the title page by Snyder directly beneath and partially over his printed name, in his calligraphy script style.
Although one of Snyder's better-known books, signed copies are rare, especially in hardcover.
Condition is VG to VG- with some foxing and soiling, and light fraying to front corners of spine tips. Very mild bow to front board, shows only if you hold the book flat in your hand like a platter and hold it up to the light. (Most sellers wouldn't even mention it.)
All in all, a solid signed copy of this important title in the Snyder canon.
