Description:
Philadelphia / London: J. B. Lippincott / George Allen & Unwin, 1936 / 1937. First edition and first UK edition (the U.S. edition preceded the one in the UK) -- two volumes. Ford's exceedingly scarce mystery novel about a young American physician selected for a fellowship in Paris who disappears while secreting a large sum of money from the Communist Party in New York to "their beleaguered comrades in France." U.S. edition is bright and near fine in good dust jacket with discoloration at spine and internal paper-tape reinforcement to edges. UK edition bears bookplate of author B. S. Townroe on front pastedown. Its covers are a bit faded and worn but the silver-stamped spine lettering is still bright and text block is fine; in a relatively clean and bright, price-clipped dust jacket with chipping along top edge dipping into tops of some title lettering. Altogether a good set. Quite scarce.
