London: W Strahan, J Rivington and sons, J Robson, C Dilly et al , 1781 A very good copy in contemporary full leather binding with 3 folding charts. The binding has raised bands with gilt ruled lines and title label to the spine and gilt lining to the board edges. It has been expertly rebacked at some point with some reinforcement to corners. It is clean and sound with some wear to the rear spine joint and a small area of leather loss to the side of the title label. All corners turned; bottom corner of back board with a bump. Couple of marks to the front board. Internally there is an 'ex libris' label of Jose M Rodriguez to the front pastedown and an armorial bookplate of Colin Malcolm Paul to the front free endpaper, along with remains of old pencil marking and an ink number. Contents: folding chart, title, dedication, contents and introduction pp x; folding chart; text Book I pp 11-103 with folding chart; Book II pp 104 - 259; Book III pp 260 - 369 with advert to verso. Contents clean and sound with toning to some sections and general light toning to page edges including the charts. The chart of the Pacific Ocean has an old repair and is more toned. There is a repaired side edge tear at p 323.
