Extended Description and Notes

**The Walden Years: 1845-1847: excerpt thanks to Wiki Thoreau embarked on a two-year experiment in simple living on July 4, 1845 when he moved to a second-growth forest around the shores of beautiful Walden Pond and lived in a tiny self-built house on land owned by Emerson. The house was not in wilderness but at the edge of town, 1.5 miles from his family home. On a trip into town, he ran into the local tax collector who asked him to pay six years of delinquent poll taxes (1846). Thoreau refused because of his opposition to the Mexican-American War and slavery, for which he spent a night in jail. His later essay on this experience, Civil Disobedience, influenced Leo Tolstoy, Mohandas Gandhi, and Martin Luther King, Jr..

We specialize in what we here like to refer to as pleasantly aged books.(After all, who likes being called "old" or "antique"!) Ranging from approximately 1960-prior. What does this mean for you? It means we can take our time, no rushing in our process here. We select each of our pieces with care. Researching the story behind the story, finding pieces that are unique. Never focusing solely on one genre. This allows us to provide a wide array of ages, genre's and authors.. An eclectic selection anyone could be proud to own.We are passionate about what we do and in serving our wonderful client base. If you have any questions or concerns don't hesitate to contact us!---------------------------------------------------------The Story behind the Story:Two Veteran Sailors met after very long separate journeys. Both filled with trials and tribulations. Both still with the storm behind their eyes.... After talks of tall tales and dreams of calmer waters, they discovered they had something else in common, their love of books, specifically ones with the same tenacity for surviving what the world has thrown at them as they do ... As time goes on the seas become tumultuous, the winds tortuous. Storm after storm thrashed upon our two sailors, finally pulling one hand from the other... after what felt like an eternity, the sun broke through the clouds, revealing only one remain...Red chose that day to carry on the dream that they envisioned together so long ago in that run down tavern.. as long as the adventures, the stories are shared they will be remembered.. and they will live on. So continues the stories of Red's and her Eclectic Diaries.**We are continuously adding new inventory. Contact us for any inquires or wish lists! If we don't have it we will find it!**
