Riveting, sobering look at war & its impact, "the first photographic history of mankind's most exciting and horrifying occupation." Covers the Crimean Was (1854-1856) through Vietnam (1946-1973), from an international perspective. Stark black-and-white images on nearly every page by all the great photographers drawn from military archives & museum/historical collections, complemented with text by Leventhal. A FIRST EDITION, with statement, from 1973, this oversized hardcover has nubby beige linen-covered boards with black title to front & spine. Condition is Near Fine: marred only by discoloration caused by foxing to upper & lower edges of both covers, & some foxed spots to title page. Very slight tanning to all page edges. Otherwise, completely clean, binding strong & straight, NO writing, highlighting, or underlining, NOT ex-lib, NOT BCE. Unclipped DJ is VG, with a small chip at bottom outer corner of front cover & some light wrinkling along both edges. Beautifully protected in new 2.5 mil archival mylar cover.
