Los Angeles, CA: The American Water Finder Co.. Very Good. Brochure. No publication date, likely printed circa 1912. Folding brochure printed in red and black on yellow-green paper stock. Measures approximately 3.25 x 6 inches when folded and 13 x 6 inches when fully open. Four panels, printed on both recto and verso. Some light toning; minor chipping to edges. Includes two monochrome photos. This brochure advertises the "Automatic Magnetic Water Finder" invented by Adolf Schmid of Berne, Switzerland. It describes how the machine "works" by using magnetism to locate underground water and supports the claim with testimonies from a German professor and customers in Italy, South Africa, Canada, and Australia. Schmid's device is debunked in Arthur J. Ellis's 1917 USGS report titled "The Divining Rod: A History of Water Witching." Very scarce with no copies in commerce or on OCLC as of June 2023. .
