The book seeks to understand how weight, obesity, and weight loss camp affect children’s self-image, body image, and relationships with their peers and families, and how children learn about and experience cultural meanings surrounding body size and embodied inequality. These phenomena are considered in the construction of childhood obesity as a broader social problem. The book sheds light on how obesity is experienced differently for children versus adults and how children navigate embodied inequality through interactional processes.
