About This Item

New York, 1835. Hardcover. Good + overall. Full yearly volume which includes a stunning steel engraved view of the Hudson River by Robert W. Weir, the scarce "Evening Scene in the Highlands, NY" (p305). Robert Weir was a Hudson River artist and long-time instructor (1834 - 1876) at West Point. The view was engraved on steel by James Smillie, a noted bank note engraver, whose engravings are especially fine. Also includes 2 steel engravings of Washington's Monument at Baltimore by T. K. Wharton, engraved by James Smillie (engraved half title & p416).

The New York Mirror published music, poetry and literature by important period authors, including Charles Dickens, Washington Irving and Oliver Wendell Holmes. Jan 1835 to Dec 1935, 52 issues, complete.

Folio, three quarter brown leather and marbled boards. Spine chipped, rear board detached but present; some light foxing, a couple of tears at foredge, otherwise good + condition. The plates bright and clean.
