University teaching copy with holograph notations throughout. Cole Harden (Gary Copper) faces the infamous Judge Roy Bean (Walter Brennan) the self proclaimed "only law west of the Pecos" in court on the charge of stealing a horse. Prior to shooting, Cooper attempted to back out of the film due to fear of being overshadowed by Brennan. His contract kept him on, and after the production's success the two went on to star in five more films together. Brennan won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and the film was nominated for two others. Set in Texas, shot in Arizona. Blue untitled wrappers. Title page present, dated November 15, 1939, with credits for screenwriters Jo Swerling and Niven Busch, and story by Stuart N. Lake. 116 leaves, with last page of text numbered 112. Mimeograph.
