Three volumes, octavo, with three half-titles, volume I with single leaf advertisement at beginning and 16 pages of publishers advertisements (dated April 1855) at end; a bright copy in three quarter blue polished calf by Bayntun, spine with raised bands, double crimson morocco labels, gilt. First Edition. A very good copy of the story of Amyas Leigh's journey to the Caribbean by Charles Kingsley. 'A patriotic tale of adventure, Jesuit intrigue, and naval enterprise of the time of Queen Elizabeth' (OCEL).This copy in an attractive Bayntun binding, the original Cambridge blue cloth binding being known as notoriously fragile and perishable. Sadleir himself implied that this is a difficult book to acquire in original condition.Sadleir's copy had publisher's advertisements dated February 1855, not April, as here.
