Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. b/w. frontis. portrait photo. of the author; a special edition of this work by Leonard Darwin, the fourth son of Charles Darwin, published for & by the Third International Congress of Eugenics held at the American Museum of Natural History in New York in August, 1932. Major Darwin, then 88 years old, was unable to attend but sent a report presented by Ronald Fisher predicting the doom of civilization unless eugenic measures were implemented. He also included in the front of this edition a six page message to the Congress. In the early 1930's eugenics dominated the thinking of the most reputable scientists and academics at elite universities in England, the United States, Germany, and Scandinavia, the pseudo-scientific theories of racial and ethnic inequality being widely accepted among academic circles This was the last International Congress of the society & the horrors that followed later in Germany in the name of eugenics have since have been well documented.
