Illustrated full cloth boards with black lettering on the front cover and spine. A very nice copy of the first edition of this seminal and important work of children's literature. The other first edition points are here including the library of congress catalog number 63-21253 and the 1963 date printed on the title page. Jacket is price clipped at the top and bottom on the interior front flap, two-paragraph blurb and the numbers 40-80, and 1163 printed at the bottom. The back flap of the jacket contains text about the Caldecott Award. A first edition, later printing, with a second state jacket.

Jacket with sunning to the spine as well as the top and bottom of the covers. Light chipping and closed tears to the head and tail of the spine and the bottom edge of the jacket. Binding tight, with only some light sunning along the bottom of the boards, and a small stain on the back cover. Dj in good+, binding in very good, interior in near fine condition overall.
